Old Wills Mother Club Dinner

Old Willy was proud to see the Willies field two teams on the same day for the first time in nearly ten years.

A slight mismatch meant the second team lost to Medway 2's by some 60 points but it seems all the players involved enjoyed the game and are keen to continue playing.

The first team enjoyed a successful start to the 2008/2009 league campaign with a win against Footscray.

On the whole it was a good day for the Old Williamsonians Rugby Club and Dan Harrison deserves a massive thank you as Old Willy understands Jamie Collins was about to throw in the towel towards the end of the week when all the second team players originally lined up to play mysteriously went AWOL, became injured or just didn't realise the amount of work it takes to producing a rugby team from scratch.

It takes a lot of effort to get an opposition, referee, food and a team of 15 plus players. The opposition won't thank you much for blowing out on a Friday due to the inability of us being able to get a team. DO THE ORGANISERS A FAVOUR> CONFIRM YOUR AVAILABILITY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

They don't care if it is a no. At least they are aware of the need to find a replacement and can make the decision to cancel a game in good time, allowing the other side to find another fixture.

Rant over.

A few of the team attended the Old Wills mother club dinner (pictures in the gallery). Andy Swain seems to have started a new tradition, two years in a row now he has won the Vodka in the raffle. The formal ffair soon becomes a lot less formal with a few very large vodkas inside you.
